Well I decided to add another video camera to my kit this past month. I have been using the Sony Z1 HDV camera for a number of shoots so I decided to buy one for the business. The Z1 does a great job shooting DV video and the HDV video at 1080i is pretty damn good. The first shoot I used the new rig on was a McAfee corporate shoot in Sunnyvale and Mission Viejo CA. It was for an old client of mine – Twist and Shout Communications out fo the UK. Jim Shields does a terrific job of telling story’s for corporate videos. (not sure how many of the clients get how good he really is at what he does).
The Z1 did a fine job on this shoot, as we shot in 1080i with a blown out background look. A single talking head against a white wall with camera movement and odd framing to give it punch. The use of the back light feature allows you to overexpose the background and get solid exposures on faces.
So it is noce to have a new toy in the kit. No sooner did I break it in than I got invovled in talking to Sony reps about buying the new Sony HD EX1 camera. I am close to making the buy. It is a solid camera and shoots full uncompressed 1080i HD and only costs $6K!
